
Pet Travel and Relocation Information Update
Here are a few information updates when traveling with your pets to and from the UAE.
Some Pet Owners planned their relocation of pets on short notice, some urgently needs export documents, some requesting for import permits, and some planned ahead of time. Snub nose breed pets that are listed below, bring a hard time being accepted by the airlines. Before, these breeds can be accepted on airlines during the months of October to April, however, recently, almost every airline does not accept this kind of breed. Some airlines accept these breeds only as In-cabin and dogs or cats must weigh only less than 8kg.
Snub-Nosed breed pets:
There are two options you can bring your pets in UAE, (1) as In-cabin with Etihad Airlines only (2) as Manifest Cargo. You can bring your pet as In-cabin only with Etihad airways, Pet owners must go to this link: https://www.etihad.com/en-ae/fly-etihad/baggage/travelling-with-pets, fill up the booking form online and all documents required for your dog/cat acceptance are listed also with Etihad website. The cost of your pet as In-cabin will be USD $1,500.

As of this quarter, countries below have updated their requirements for Pet Travel.
- Australia – The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has conducted a policy review of the rabies virus risk in imported dogs and cats. The Final report recommends changes to the requirements for the Import of cats and dogs from approved countries to effectively manage the biosecurity risk associated with the rabies virus. Effective March 01, 2023, changes includes the strengthening animal identification, residency and post-entry quarantine measures, and recognizing an adequate Rabies Neutralizing Titre Test (RNATT) laboratory report for no longer 12 months.
- Oman – Aside with the Import Permit, Rabies blood test report is mandatory to all pets traveling to the country.
- USA – Temporary suspension for importation of dogs from rabies high-risk countries to USA has been extended until July 31, 2023. Meanwhile. starting March 01, 2023, valid CDC Rabies Vaccination and Microchip Record is necessary in addition to either a CDC Dog Import Permit or a reservation at a CDC-approved animal care facility. CDC will NOT accept foreign-issued pet passports or any other certificates for foreign rabies vaccinations.CDC Rabies Vaccination and Microchip Record should be completed by the veterinarian that vaccinated the dog. In the event that the veterinarian that vaccinated the dog has left the practice, a second veterinarian may complete the record subject that the requirements specified within the CDC guidelines are complied with.Dogs must only enter the United States through the airports with a CDC quarantine station.
