The Hidden Pain: More Than Just Bad Breath
Did you know that most dogs and cats develop dental disease by the age of 2 or 3 years old?
Dental disease often starts with plaque, which turns into tartar, allowing bacteria to damage the gums and supporting tooth tissues. As the disease progresses, these bacteria can enter the bloodstream and may affect organs such as the heart, kidneys, and liver.
Because pets instinctively hide pain, the signs can be hard to identify:
- Bad breath
- Eating more slowly
- Less interest in chewing toys or treats
- Behavior changes, less interaction with the family.
- Refusing to have their face touched or been pets, some times they even becomes grampys.
Regular dental examinations, professional assessment and dental prophylaxis are the best way to prevent pain and protect your pet’s overall health.
Our Vet Team recommend a dental check-up at least once a year, and every 6 months for senior pets or high-risk breeds.
