Measuring Pet Before Travel

Are you planning to travel or relocate your pet soon? Do you know that your pet can travel in three different ways depending on breed, size, weight, and airline: (1) in-cabin flight with a soft travel carrier or hard carrier within the allowable dimensions; (2) as excess baggage; and (3) in cargo using a hard travel carrier or crate.

Getting the correct travel carrier for your pet is essential. Each travel carrier must ensure that the pet has enough space to turn around normally whilst also being able to stand, sit and lay down in its natural position, without hindrance. The travel carrier itself must offer plenty of ventilation for the pet inside as well as contain screws going around the outer rim which provides security and strength. Know the right way on how to measure your dog or cat to easily find the correct size of a travel carrier.

How to measure your Dog?

A – measure from the tip of the nose to the base of the dog’s tail
B – measure from ground to elbow
C – measure the widest part of the body
D – when standing, measure from ground up to highest point including ears
E – when sitting, measure from ground up to highest point including ears

Follow the instructions* shown in the illustration and document the measurement in centimeters. To find the correct size of a travel carrier, take note of all the measurements (A) to (E) and calculate the internal dimensions by:

  • Length = A + 1/2 B
  • Width = C x 2
  • Height =  D or E (get whichever number is higher)
