Mange in Rabbits
The most common skin problems in rabbits show as a greyish overgrowth of skin on ear margin, nose and paws. This is a common clinical problem in rabbits caused by mites. Although the mites are somewhat species specific, they tend to give some rash and itching to children and parents when handling their pets. This goes the moment you control and eliminate the mite problem.
New products are on the market which easily curb the mite infestation and all rabbits in the house should be treated repeatedly and at the same time, frequency depending on the product used as well as a good cleaning of their enclosure to avoid recurrence. Furthermore it is important to check the rabbit diet and add supplements, deworming the rabbits as well in order to establish a better health status to give less chance to re-infection.
When adding a new rabbit to the enclosure, preventative treatment for mite infection and endoparasites is recommended.
